Dream Home?

What is your dream home like? I was talking to my friend Collin and we were talking about him buying a home and what that actually is. He of course is uncertain of what that consists of at this point and what it might be in the future. So, what do you buy today that will be what you want in the future. My friend Alexa is currently buying a house and is so it is very exciting for her.
What do I want? Collin said a front door would be nice and I agree. What would yours be? Big or little, two-story or one, 3 bedrooms or 4, how many baths? Would you want land or a nice little cul-de-sac?I would love to build a steal home on Mama and Daddy's land in Houston. I want it to be on the right side of the property over by the stream - there is a little cove among the trees. I want it to be one story with a large kitchen and I would love to have an enclosed porch on the back of the house. I want a guest bedroom, a craft room and a master bedroom that would be a office too. I want a big bathtub, because I love baths. I guess we will see what happens in the future.

I'd love to have a little land, a one story house, at least 3 bedrooms; 1 master, 1 office and 1 guest room that can each be modified into kids rooms if that should ever happen. It would have a 2 car garage that's not the main feature of the house and because I have land, it would be around back and attached somehow so that in bad weather you wouldn't have to walk out in it. The kitchen would be big with a bar that opens out onto a large living. Several comfy couches and chairs, with barstools at the bar. Living room would have a real wood burning fireplace with a large mantel that I could put lovely things on. Master bedroom would be big enough for at least a queen size bed, large dresser and an area that I could put a comfy couch/chaise lounge for reading. Master bath with LARGE/DEEP bathtub with whirlpool jets, stand alone shower and his/her walkin closets, and really good lighting so that I can read while soaking. I would love to have this house custom built but at this point I can't even afford a 25 year old home!! And if you couldn't tell, I have given this a LITTLE thought! :-D

I wish a home wasn't just a dream right now! But, i love that you are thinking of this - I think it is fun. What house is the second picture of?
I love it. Right now, I want another bathroom that the little boys were not allowed to use. One that could be clean and not smell like the pee that somehow missed the toilet!:) I, too, want a big bathtub to soak in. I would want four bedrooms and two living areas. One that could double as a playroom. I would love and fireplace and open kitchen with light cabinets. Tile in the kitchen and maybe wood somewhere, but carpet in the bedrooms. A laundry room with storage space that you don't have to go outside to use. :)
I would like a detached garage, but with a covered walkway to it. Closets, I can't wait for more closets. A place for the vacuum and all the coats and backpacks. I would like a nice fenced yard where the kids could play, but where I could have some flowers and a small garden. I have no idea when we will have a home or what it will be like. But, I am excited for the day when we will be able to settle and have something that is ours and we can paint or buy a piece of furniture that would never work anywhere, but in that spot. :)

I feel guilty replying because I have a home, but you asked about dream homes, so I am going to answer too!

I want some land. I'm not sure how much. When we were staying at Mama's for a week to take care of everything, 30 acres seemed both too big and too little. I felt like I couldn't keep it up to suburban sculpted standards (but maybe that's the point - to let go of that). Other times I wanted more land so that I didn't see any other humans. I found I was resentful of the times I had to leave the farm, so there is a fear that I would become a recluse. So, I'm still working on the "right" amount of land for me! :)

My house would be ONE story!!!!
I have VERY strong feelings about those stairs. Those 12-14 little steps cause a mental division. We can't possible put our clothes away right now because then we'd have to go UPSTAIRS! Heaven forbid! Another bad thing about stairs is that only half of my house is clean at any one time. I see the downstairs, so it gets clean, and the upstairs goes to pot. Or I clean the upstairs and the bottom falls apart. Sigh!

I would have a big, efficient kitchen with beautiful wood cabinets that have NEVER been painted white. The tile would be a beige color (not white!) so the dirt would take longer to show up! :) I'm not the world's best housekeeper! I like our 5 bedrooms because it gives us a catch all/storage room and a room for Jason's radio equipment.

Most of all, something light and bright to help me fight the blahs on dark, cloudy days!

:)

Like Shelly I feel kinda guilty since I'm in a house and thankful to not be in an apartment but where as I love this little house it is most definitely not my dream home. I want a walk in closet, a master bath with a huge bathtub, and a pantry. Those are probably my greatest desires right now since I don't have them. That and like Shelly I want kitchen cabinets that have never been painted, a house thats not 60 years old where something constantly breaks. Ben and I want to live in the mountains but close to a big city. I want a huge house honestly that I don't have to clean. I figure if we can afford something that big we can also afford a maid-remember this is a dream.I want 6 bedrooms. So my kids don't have to share. We plan on 4. Plus a huge master and a guest room. Grand total of 6. I also want a craft room, insulated music room-for my sanity and a library/office.Oh, I want an incredible kitchen, with Viking appliances. At least you know they wont be a waste. So I figure two story plus a basement. If you can tell I've looked at plans and it will be around 5500-7000 sq. ft. Oh and the outside will look like a swiss chalet/ hence mountains. Will probably never happen but we can dream right!?

lol ... you make me laugh Kathie!! I was going to wait until I had caught up on all your posts to comment and then read the first line of the next comment and said ... fine... and went back here to comment.

AH...what kind of a house indeed ... which dream would you like to hear. In my dreams I have an 'enclosed' out door area too. Great for outdoor living anytime of the year! I have speparte back yards, for kids, dogs, garden areas, and 'other critters.' I'll need a few acres!! I would love to have a stream too. Though I think the location of our homes would vary greatly ... you never have been one for good winters!!! Where as I LOVE a good winter! Lee has told me though, if we get a bigger driveway we have to get a snowblower ... I loved this winter ... I didn't have to shovel at ALL!!! WOOHOOO to husbands and being prego! A steel home is econonical .. well as long as the cost of steel doesn't keep doing what it is doing .. it's nearly doubled in the last year ...ggrrr. But it's less expensive to insure, you get straighter walls, and don't right there's nothing wrong with it ... well that's about true of any form of building, but it's getting it done right that's the hard part! Oh on a side note. That large bathtub ... ask how much water it holds. Then make sure you get a water heater (or two more likely) big enough to fill it up!!! It's always funny to hear stories about nice tubs that they don't have enough water to fill up nice and hot! and I know you like HOT water! I have yet to figure out how you shower so fast though ... one of those things that will go down forever in my question category. Okay, I'll ramble more later.

Loves,
Suzan
